From October 2015 to April 2016, Sun Bear Outreach, focused on bringing immediate improvements to the welfare of the sun bears in the care of the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation (BOSF). In collaboration with BOSF, we spent 6 months building larger cages and improving old ones for 20 of the 45 sun bears at their sanctuary in Samboja Lestari, East Kalimantan.

enclosures but the remaining 20 didn’t because they could escape from these enclosures or because they didn’t get along with the other bears. The cages of these bears were particularly small and inadequate, so our first mission was to transfer the bears to more appropriate cages as quickly as possible.
